Using history to create art.
“Tommyknocker” Trellis/Arbor
The Western Museum of Mining & Industry contacted me about doing a garden piece for charity. The task was to use 100% reclaimed/derelict mining metal, which included drill extension rods, drill bits, blacksmith tongs, wrenches, and other ancient machinery.
I wanted to create a “passage” to symbolize the gateway that industry and technological advancement opened for humanity. Abandoned history looks great in gardens. When it is overtaken by vines and flowers and plant life, I hope that it will pay tribute to the miners, workers and animals that built the path for industry, but I also hope that it will exist to reflect how industry impacts the Earth, how nature works endlessly to overtake its form back from humanity’s expansion.
